Schroth Industries has been supplying mine timbers such as posts, cribbing, headers, crossbars, and bridge planks to the mining industry since the 1920s in Western Pennsylvania. Servicing the coal mining industry by providing them with their timber requirements is still a crucial part of our business.
Natural Gas Industry
With the revitalization of the natural gas industry in Western Pennsylvania due to the exploration of the Marcellus and Utica shales we have expanded our inventory to supply the “gas patch” with their hardwood blocking needs.

Wood Treating Services
TSO
Schroth Industries also provides a treating service for your lumber known as TSO (Treating Service Only). We offer CCA for industrial, marine, and agricultural uses. For the consumer market we offer Nature Wood®.
Nature Wood® is the brand name for Copper Azole and is the environmentally advanced, chrome and arsenic-free preservative that we use. Nature Wood® is suited for outdoor building projects where appearance is important and protection from the effects of weathering is a priority. The treated lumber is pressure-treated deep to the heart of the wood, unlike brush-on applications that only protect the surface of the wood. Nature Wood® provides long lasting protection against the effects of weathering that lead to cupping and splitting in your outdoor wood projects.

Nature Wood can be painted or stained to match any outdoor color scheme. High quality oil-based paints and stains are recommended. Water repellent coatings can be applied to improve the long-term surface appearance of Nature Wood. Left uncoated or with clear water repellent coatings, Nature Wood will initially weather to a natural brown color, eventually turning gray following long-term exposure to the sun.
It is important to ensure that the wood is dry and free from surface deposits prior to applying any coating.
